Now, we’ve all done it at some point: cut ourselves a slice of cake in the early hours of the morning, leaving us feeling guilty for the rest of the day. But what if we told you it’s not as bad as you’d think? In fact, what if we told you it’s a healthy option? Well, now’s the time to find out.
Liz Moskow, the culinary director at an advertising firm in Colorado whose clients include Wendy’s, Kellogg’s and Heinz, has said that more us of will be eating chocolate earlier in the day this year. She said that chocolate cake in particular could become a common feature on breakfast and brunch menus.
There have been plenty of studies that have supported the claim. Researchers from Tel Aviv University found that morning is the best time to consume sweet food because this is when the metabolism is most active. It also stems the craving for sweet foods later in the day.
Another study involved splitting over 190 obese, non-diabetic adults into two groups. One consumed a low-carb diet that included a 300-calorie breakfast and the other group had a balanced 600-calorie breakfast that included a chocolate cake dessert.
At the end of the research, those who consumed a 600 calorie breakfast had lost an average of 40 lbs more per person.
There are food trends that come every year, we’ve had kale and avocado, but our fingers are crossed that this is 2017’s – it would certainly be more appealing!
